Lee and Jeff waiting at a rest stop north of Cape Girardeau, MO, for the rain to stop.
Today we needed to make up for all the tourism along the river so we broke camp at 6AM and hit the road at 7. On the Interstate we made great progress, stopped for breakfast in Wentzsville Mo As we neared Jackson MO, we pulled into the rest stop to don the hydration vests. Suddenly, threatening weather came out of nowhere and nearby areas received inches of rain within the period of an hour. We suited up and dashed through a lull to check in to the Cape Girardeau Hampton Inn. Total distance for the day 213 miles with a total of 840 miles for the trip.

Getting an early start on the day, we rode the interstate all the way to Memphis. In Memphis we stopped at Bumpus HD for some shopping. Afterwards, we had lunch at Central BBQ and departed for more Interstate riding to the South. We stopped for the night in Jackson MS. We stayed at the Lefluers Bluff State Park. The campground is actually a scout camp with some very nice amenities. One amenity we were not aware of is the alligators in the small lake the camp is built around. There are signs indicating no swimming, but not why. We met some other campers who informed us of the existence of the alligators. We did our laundry because the campground had machines and it also has very nice showers. Tomorrow we head to New Orleans, and beyond, the end of the river in Venice-Boothville, LA. Total distance for the day 416 miles with a total of 1256 miles for the trip.
